If you are a Windows Phone user, you know that official apps are hard to come by in the Windows Phone Store. Third party developers however, do a pretty good jump of filling up that space. Take for instance, the popular video streaming service, YouTube. While there isn’t an official app from Google on the Windows Phone store, there are handy alternatives such as myTube and MetroTube that let you enjoy your favorite videos on your smartphone. toib is the latest app to join that list.
Developed by Daniel Berg, who brought you the popular Feedly alternative Phonly, toib promises to bring you a clean YouTube experience. With a minimalist design, you’d think that the app will offer limited features, but surprisingly it gives you a completely wholesome viewing experience. For instance, you can login to YouTube and watch your playlists, subscriptions, favorited or liked videos; browse other YouTube videos, and search for videos on the platform. Toib also offers support for Buffer and HD playback. You can even subscribe to new channels, add comments to videos, share videos with your friends, and add videos to your playlists to watch later. If you prefer to watch YouTube videos on IE, then toib offers a handy feature to do that too.
The Settings screen on toib lets you change your location so that you can watch content that is blocked in your country. You can also choose from a light, dark and black theme and add a Live Tile option. Other settings options include the ability to set the default video playback quality to 720p and play videos under Lock screen mode.
toib comes with a try-before-you-buy option, but it is not a fully featured trial. Nevertheless, it is a handy YouTube alternative that is worth checking out. If you like what you see, you can unlock the full version for $0.99.
